What Is Miami-Dade NOA Approval and Why Does It Matter?

You'll see 'Miami-Dade NOA Approved' mentioned prominently on our site and in our materials. But what does that actually mean — and why should it matter to you as a homeowner?

What NOA Stands For

NOA stands for Notice of Acceptance. It's a certification issued by Miami-Dade County's Building Code Compliance Office after a product has been independently tested and verified to meet the county's stringent building code requirements. Miami-Dade County has some of the toughest building codes in the world, developed in direct response to the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

What the Testing Involves

To earn NOA approval, impact windows and doors must pass a series of rigorous tests including large missile impact testing (a 9-pound 2x4 fired at 50 feet per second), cyclic wind pressure testing, and water infiltration testing. Products that pass these tests have proven they can withstand the forces of a major hurricane.

Why It's the Gold Standard

Florida Building Code requires impact-rated products in High-Velocity Hurricane Zones (HVHZ), which includes Miami-Dade and Broward counties. But NOA approval is recognized statewide as the highest standard of performance. When All Phase installs NOA-approved products, you know your home is protected by windows and doors that have been independently verified — not just marketed — as hurricane-resistant.

Always Ask for NOA Documentation

When getting quotes from any contractor, ask to see the NOA numbers for the specific products being proposed. A reputable contractor will provide this without hesitation. At All Phase, we provide full documentation for every product we install, and we're happy to walk you through what it means.
